We Love Hockey!

Yendarra BLACK STICKS
On Friday 13th June we travelled to the Papatoetoe Sports Centre to play hockey against schools from Papatoetoe and Otara. I was so excited because it is a new sport that I am still learning. We won three games, drew one game and lost two games placing 5th on the day. THANK YOU to our coaches and teachers.

Yendarra BLACK STICKS
Hockey is a sport I am still learning to play. The tournament was challenging because I was playing against some of my own friends who now go to other schools. I enjoyed competing in my first sporting team this year because I was proud to represent Yendarra School, Room 19 and my family.

A Home Run

Yendarra attended the Otara Sport Clusters annual Softball tournament held at the Howick Softball Club.  We entered a boys and girls team for the tournament and were pleased with performance both on and off the softball pitch.  The sport is very new to many of us but every member of the team demonstrated the value of MANAWANUI by not giving up and doing the BEST they could.

On behalf of our Yendarra whanau we applaud the work of Lincoln and his team from Counties Manukau Primary Sport, Auckland Softball Association and the Howick Softball club for hosting and facilitating a well organised competition on the day – as all teams success would not be possible without the behind the scenes work of all those involved.

In closing we thank our parent whanau for your ongoing support we are truly blessed to have you attend when you can and look forward to your presence in competitions this year.

FROM THE TEAM

Yendarra visits the Botanical Gardens

A selected group of 30 children were given the opportunity to travel to the Botanical gardens in Manukau heights on Friday 11th April.  The students were able to learn about habitats of native and introduced insects and animals to New Zealand .The day was informative, interactive and a lot of fun. Thank you to the Auckland Council for making this opportunity possible.  The learning we will keep with us and share with others.

I really enjoyed learning about where bats live and what they eat.

I didn’t know you need to use traps to stop pests from hurting our plants and other birds and insects.

I learnt that there are long tailed bats and they live in trees and eat moths.

It was so funny running through the Kauri forest maze finding answers to different questions.  I nearly got lost but there were a lot of helpers there to look after you.

Special points of interest:
· Introduced animals are those that have come from overseas to New Zealand.

· New Zealanders are often referred to as Kiwi’s because of our most treasured wing-less bird

· Possums are a big pest!!
