HAPPY FEET hit the BIG STAGE!

This term we have learnt many different dance steps with help from Stepz dance studio and our Dance Coach ‘Meesha’.  For seven weeks this term we have been observing, learning, practising and rehearsing at school with our peers and teachers (you can see an earlier post on our blog when we were just starting off).  We have really enjoyed dancing with partners, learning new dance steps that we have never tried before and developing confidence when dancing in front of an audience.

How exciting it was to perform live on a BIG STAGE in front of students from Saint John’s school, Wymondley Road school, Counties Manukau Sport, Kiwisport funders, Stepz Dance studio Manager Michael and parents of the Wymondley Road school community. To show just how much we enjoyed learning dance this term we also created our own hip hop dance to show our gratitude to all those who made this possible.

We say a BIG THANK YOU to Wymondley Road school for hosting our ‘dance off’.  We admired the sense of pride within your student leaders who greeted us and are grateful to your teachers and parents for being so welcoming.

So sit back and watch our HAPPY FEET!

YENDARRA HAS THEIR FLIPPERS ON

This term we have been learning to SWIM and STAY SAFE in and around water.  We have enjoyed travelling to the Otara Normon Kirk Memorial pools to work with our swimming coaches from Swim Gym.  Learning to swim is so important because we can use these skills when we are on holiday at the beach with our family in summer and when we visit the pools in the school holidays.  If someone needed our help we know we could offer some assistance.

To show our appreciation Room 19 Boys Class have been learning to write acrostic poems to show our gratitude using the word: Thanks! So on behalf of all of us to all of you: Sir John Walker Find your field of dreams, Swim Gym, Mike Ibbertson and the staff at the Otara leisure centre this is for you……….

Thank you to Sir John Walker find your field of dreams for the opportunity

Have learnt so many water safe messages like always wear a life jacket on a boat

Am looking forward to teaching others how to use floating aids when rescuing someone in trouble

Nice swimming teachers helped us learn how to kick, blow bubbles, float and glide under water

Keep up the great work and offering these lessons to other children so they can be safe around open water at beaches

Swimming will be treasured and remembered by everyone who was involved this year.

We have our happy feet on!

Did you know that dancing isn’t just about steps and music?

It has been a great way for us to improve our fitness and balance as well as use our relating to others and thinking key competencies.

Our all boys class has learnt to perform the ‘cha-cha’ dance step in partners.

We think we are doing really well!

Watch our clip and let us know what you think J

Room 14’s Blog!

Kiaora Koutou! There are so many exciting learning opportunities happening in our senior hapu during term 3! Room 14 has been working tirelessly to be the best we can be in all learning areas!

We are super excited about the wonderful zoo trip we are so lucky to be able to attend as a senior Hapu! We are filling our brains with as much knowledge as we can about amazing animals!

During writing, we are focusing on writing reports on animals, where we explain the life of a certain animal. We write about their appearance, habitat, diet, predators and special facts we love to share.

Here we are writing a report on an Eagle!

Community Swim Programme

Manukau Leisure Services has invited students from Yendarra in years 3-6  to participate in the John Walker Find Your Field of Dreams Community Swim Programme.

The aim of the programme is to ensure that all children develop the basic life skill of swimming and to realize the opportunities that await them when the door to the world of aquatics is opened.

HOW LUCKY ARE WE!!

Watch This Space for updates on how we are going.

Sensational Skateboards

Thank you to Steve Hodges from Skate Onboard

for generously donating 15 skateboards to Yendarra school.

We loved having the SK8IT programme come into our school and teach the junior and senior students how to skate properly and be safe by wearing the correct protective gear.

Not only did we learn loads of skills from how to stand correctly, turn, and do awesome tricks like jumps and but we had heaps of fun!!!!

"I was nervous because I had never skateboarded before but now I LOVE IT!"

"Steve and the coaches were really cool and they were professional skateboarders!"

"I know the helmet safety rule of 2-4-1 !"

Now we get to practice our skateboarding moves every hapu sport and during lunchtimes
Thank You Again.

Seven Sharp at Yendarra

Seven Sharp at Yendarra

We want to say a HUGE thank you to Seven Sharp for visiting our wonderful school this morning and sharing the story of our success with healthy kai.

Seven Sharp heard our awesome principal, Mrs Dunlop on Newstalk ZB a few weeks ago talking about healthy food at Yendarra and they wanted to see what she was talking about for themselves.

After a haka powhiri they walked around to classrooms with their enormous, expensive cameras, to see with their very own eyes and record the wonderful, healthy lunches our parents provide for their children.

We can’t wait to watch Seven Sharp, Channel One.  Look out for us!

Healthy Kai at Yendarra

Today we were very proud to be able to listen to our Principal Mrs Dunlop on live radio! She was being interviewed about the new food in schools programme. Mrs Dunlop wanted to let everyone in New Zealand know that low decile schools can have healthy lunch every day because our awesome students and their families do, so why can't others?

Thank you Mrs Dunlop for supporting our community and getting the wonderful story of Yendarra's healthy kai into the news.

We and our commuity appreciate it!
Why not listen to it for yourself:
